A 30-second 100-word microfiction using the word Selected. This story was inspired by one of my favorite movies, Flatliners.
I lay on the cold table in the hospital suite. I had machines hooked up to me, but nothing to save my life.
I was one of the selected to die by choice. It would only be five minutes, an experiment on the body after clinical death.
I felt the heat from the injection, my heart frantically beating, and then it…stopped.
I was a baby, naked and screaming
A toddler stumbling around
First day of school
My first kiss
My first dance
My wedding
The birth of my children
My eyes opened. I was back in the cold, white room.
It seemed not so much like dying as reliving your life in fast forward.
That was a whirlwind....and I didn't expect to be back on the gurney. That was a surprise
